She sits down in her favorite coffeehouse, takes pen and paper and starting to write already 39th letter during this 731 days… with hope that this time she will get the answer.
Maria met Marco in Prague, right in the middle of Charles Bridge.
“Did you decide that world doesn’t need an angel like you?”
“How much is the distance between bridge and water?”
“It’s enough. You want me to get wet?”
Maria shacked her head.
“I don’t want it, too, but if you will jump I will jump after you to get you over there.”
She even didn’t thought to end her life, but she was feeling so lonely… strange country, strange people, no any euro, no any place to stay at night…
“I’m Marco.”
Maria thru out the last cigarette she had, smiled, tried to say her name, but she couldn’t. She started to cry. Marco smiled, give her his cote, tried to hug her, but she don’t let him.
“Come with me and I will show the most beautiful Prague”
She was walking near that stranger, who was ignoring her tires and, with lots of energy, was telling about all the mystery and beauty of nights in Prague. Maria wasn’t listening.
“…you see that…”
“Who are you?”
“I’m Marco.”
“Who is Marco?”
“Oh, He is 34 years old Spanish man, who is coming to Prague twice a year for a conference.”
It was December and all city was occupied with Christmas lights and mood.
Marco took out the napkin and close Marias eyes.
“Just believe me.”
Maria was getting angry on herself.
“Sit here and wait for me”
She wanted to say that she will not wait for that strange man and went away, but she just nodded and even during her waiting time, she didn’t open her eyes. She absolutely loosed herself. Maria was just 25 but she already showed to her parents, that she could control her life herself. She entered the university in Prague and bought the tickets with her own money. She couldn’t even imagine that when she will come to Prague she will do the mistake that will cost her so much. She lose everything: job, house and even her place in university.
“You need to be happy, angels happiness is right from heaven.”
Maria felt warm cap in her cold hands. Marco sites near and took off the napkin from her eyes. She opened her eyes and smiled first time sins the day she came to Prague. The smell of hot chocolate in her hands was touching her crying soul. Her eyes were shining from the beauty. They were in Christmas tree market. There was light and snow all around. They stay there all night through. All night and all the next day they was together. Marco was telling lots of interesting stories, but never asking anything. Maria even thought that he knows her.
“Why you spoke with me?”
“I was in balcony when I saw an angel on the bridge. She was dancing in the silent. She was smoking as she was enjoying every gram of smoke and she was watching to the water for too long. When I saw you, I heard my heart telling me that I need to come to you. If you wait me to be honest, I will tell you that I have no idea I need you more or you needs me… now and here.”
Maria didn’t answer.
In the evening, they walked to his hotel, as it was so usual.
When Maria went out from the bathroom, Marco was already slipping. She took off her slippers to not wake him up. Then she took the cigarettes and liter that Marco through to the table, and went to balcony. Just like that: without slippers and with tower overbodyed. Maria was feeling happiness all around. She was enjoying every snowflake that was falling into her naked body. She could see all Prague from there… all the places where that 2 strangers have been during this one day and one night.
“Oh my god, am I in some Hollywood movie? Director made a mistake… It’s not my role. But I really like it.”
When Maria woke up she found the letter “Sorry Angel, I couldn’t miss this conference. Please wait for me.”
In the table she found breakfast, keys and some money. She remembered the movie «Pretty Woman», she felt like Julia Roberts. She get crazy, but soon she started to control herself. When Marco came back he found in the table dinner and letter with just 2 words ''thanks you''. He took one more cote for her and went to tree market.
''You are so predictable. Ok Angel, let's go back. I can't have eat without you.''
''You are an egoist. Rich baby who used to get everything that he wants... You are not taking care of any other persons feelings. Your trip will finish, you will go to Spain and what about me?''
Marco wasn't listening, he kissed her.
''Sorry, Marco, I just lose control. You came and sad that you can't eat alone...''
''I sad that I can't eat without you!''
That is how the great fairytale started. Nearly a month they were together. They were the happiest people in the world. They were in love! And they never spoke about future. Maria scared of thinks about future. But that day came...
''I bought for you a ticket to Armenia.''
''I can't pay for it.''
''Don't say a stupid thinks, just give me promise to write to me ... a lot of letters... but no any e_mails.''
''I promise. Just hand wroted letters''
And again bridge, again tires, lots of emotions and kisses.
Now Maria was in Armenia. She concentrated all her energy and again get nearly everything: job, house, car, Czech cigarettes ... end 39 letters... 39 unanswered letters. She was thinking that may be he is not in Tarragona, or he isn't getting her letters or may be he is answering but she is not getting them.
And finally... letter. The address shown in letter makes her eye shine, but name of sender scare her...
''Hi, I'm writing to you, 'couse I can't see anymore how my mum is crying. I'm just 14 years old, but I understood that something happen right after my dad came back from Prague. He never was so unhappy, but sometimes when he is alone Ii can see the shine in his eyes. Ones, in night I saw my mum reading some letter and crying. In the morning she told to dad that she will go to post office every day before work. Dad often is asking didn't he get any letter. And more and more often I'm seeing my mum reading letters and crying.
Yesterday I found all your 39 letters...
In your letter I found love... love that my mother never can give to him... I found happiness... happiness that my mum never can give to him... That is why she's just crying and don’t telling anything...
It is really terrible to pronounce it, but I'm sure my dad would answer you, if he get your letters.
